Borderline

2024
Barbed wire, organza, silk, cotton, gauze & turmeric.

This installation reimagines barbed wire, traditionally a symbol of division and violence, by transforming it into a soft sculpture intertwined with cotton, organza, and silk coated in turmeric—a substance rooted in healing within South Asian cultures. The juxtaposition of harsh and delicate materials invites viewers to rethink the boundaries between conflict and care. Floral motifs, embedded within the fabric, reference the shared botanical heritage of the Indian subcontinent, emphasising themes of reconciliation and renewal. Through repetition and material metamorphosis, the work addresses inherited trauma and encourages a dialogue on connection, healing, and the arbitrariness of Partition.
