Between the Margins

2023
Mixed Media. Ink, acrylic, pen and tea stains on wood.

This work examines the layered and fragmented perspectives of divided land in the aftermath of Partition, using a diptych to juxtapose blueprints of ancestral homes—emblems of memory and belonging—with imagery representing the now-unreachable 'other side.' Through a shifting visual approach, from the intimate scale of individual bricks to expansive aerial views, the piece foregrounds the tension between presence and absence, evoking the dissonance of separation and loss. By navigating these juxtapositions, the work critically engages with the ongoing impact of Partition, inviting a re-examination of rigid boundaries and reflecting on how fractured landscapes continue to shape collective memory and identity.
