Poetics of Space

Ongoing
Series. Gesso, gouache and gold leaf on khadi paper.

Each individual Khadi paper captures a distinct element of family homes rendered in an overexposed quality, from white-on-white depiction of these spaces. Minimal gold accents applied to architectural features within the home aim to imbue them with a sense of value for the viewer.

This self reflexive activity of remembering through mark making, serves as a springboard for revisiting and re-engaging with childhood experiences. As I navigate these spaces, I seek to materialise the tension between the physical permanence of the home as an archive, with the ephemeral nature of the memories contained within inhabited space.

The house, with its porous, shifting presence in my memory, transcends its physicality to emerge as a symbol of the ongoing negotiation between past and present, self and place.
